Too much or never enough?

After writing about minimalism two weeks ago, now we ask ourselves: is it wrong to like combining multiple patterns?

Fabrics, colors, textures. How can we tell whether we look fabulous or we made a mess out of our closet?

Decades ago, colors and patterns used to be something that showed we had good taste and high social status. In the 21st century, colors started to be left apart and minimalism turned into a growing trend. It expanded so much that we started to feel that if we have one pattern, like a t-shirt with flowers, then the rest of our pieces must be black or grey. It even feels like we are afraid of our own clothes, and fear to combine them.

These are some street style looks from New York and Paris Fashion Week Fall 2018. They show a great number of patterns brought together as well as a combination of colors that minimalists would feel like an insult.

I am of the view that clothes are not about what you wear but how you wear them. And in all these pictures, we can see people slaying this outfits. It is all about the attitude. The key is to walk as if you own the world. Just put on the clothes you love and don´t be afraid to wear them together and to let people see you in them.

I know, I have a critical bone inside of me that wants to talk more subjectively. My viewpoint is that there is a thin line between looking amazing and looking like a freak that doesn´t know how to combine clothes. I think that when you start adding details they look like too much, until you add so many items it starts to look great again. So yes, for me, a pink sweater with a green and yellow skirt look awful. But when you add a long silver necklace, and yellow earrings and shoes, you are a fashionista.

I also believe we need to overcome this 21st century phobia for clothes and star wearing what we love and how we love. We need to start wearing our pieces everywhere and not only in fashion shows. All together, we need to turn the streets into a fashion runway and dress ready to kill even tough we are going to the grocery´s store.
